  • 16 years ago today

I became a mother...at 11:03 pm.  She was 7 pounds 13 1/2 oz. and 22 1/2 inches long.  Today she stands at 5'10" and towers over me who stands at 5'4".  She is a godly young lady who is trying very hard to live her life for Christ.  I couldn't be more proud!

    Happy sweet 16 my love!

  • For those who think I have a normal life...

Let me set the record straight!  I have a wonderful life.  I have a wonderful husband who loves and adores every crazy thing about me.  He gets up everyday and goes to work at a place he doesn't particularly like just so I can stay home and take care of our 4 wonderful children whom we both think fell from the heavenly throne.  Our girls are obedient (for the most part), kind, gentle, loving, God fearing Christians who give us very little trouble.  Is a matter of fact, when we go places I always have people ask me how I do it...which I reply Deuteronomy 6.  However they also think that my life is very calm and full of days sitting around in the shade sipping sweet tea reading Sense and Sensibility.

This morning started out fairly normal.  I sliced a loaf of bread and made french toast for the girls, en-hailed a cup of coffee and then removed the toothpicks that were holding my eye lids open.  The next 30 minutes were spent asking the 3 little ones "Are you dressed yet?"  followed by "Please walk the dog he's hopping on 2 paws now with his eyeballs floating."  Which was proceeded by "Are you STILL not dressed??"

So by 9am we are all settled down for our studies when my 10 year old jumps up from the table and runs out the front door to tackle a chicken walking across the front yard.   I'm now wondering how the chicken got in the front yard and asking myself who else has escaped from the menagerie in the back yard.   So I get up to see if anyone else is taking a walk about when my daughter starts screaming for help because all 7 chickens, 2 ducks and turkey are trying to make a break for it.  The hunt is on!

My oldest daughter, who is NOT an animal lover, and I try to persuade the feathered friends back under the house and into the back yard while my other daughter is under the house chasing the chickens as the cluck and fuss all around in a circle at each other.  And low and behold if I don't hear "Hey Mom, I found an egg!!"  Well, that's great honey, but could you please find the CHICKEN who laid that egg and remove her from under the house!  -.-

By this time it dawns on my oldest daughter and I that maybe, just maybe we should go to the back yard to see how the chickens are getting under the house.  We discover that the lattice work was pulled back so we straighten that all out when we hear my other daughter say "Hey Mom...wanna let me out?" As she is holding a very upset Rhode Island Red under her arm.  Oops, we forgot she was under there.

So all chickens accounted for...all ducks accounted for...wait a minute...where's the turkey?  I look over in my garden and there she be...all in her glory...walking in my garden stepping on my squash plants.  So I send the girls over to try to catch her which freaked her COMPLETELY out and she proceeds to jump up out of the garden...and into the swimming pool!  All three of us gasp at the same time and all I could see was me diving into the pool (which was a lovely shade of green) to try to save this dumb bird.  But wait...turkeys swim!  Who knew?  But now how do we get her out of the pool?  So I grab the pool skimmer and lift her fat bottom up so she can jump out and what does she do?  She gets nice and cozy on the pool skimmer and settles down for a rest!  I think not!  So I hand the skimmer to my oldest daughter and head to get into the pool (did I mention that it is GREEN??) when she lifts the skimmer up just enough so the bird jumps out and onto the side of the pool where my daughter then takes the skimmer and knocks her OFF the side of the pool and onto the ground.  Dumb bird...

OK everything back to normal we head inside to get back to school work...  Where I find that my 2 little girls have taken Chester, the rabbit, and shoved him into the pink Easter basket...because after all, what better place for a rabbit to be than in an Easter basket right??  o.0  Sounds like me as a little girl thinking my cats actually LIKED being wrapped up in my blanket and being carried around in the 900 degree heat.  So there goes poor Chester hopping off to hide in the corner somewhere that he can't be found in fear of all boxes, bags and baskets and watching out for little girls with long curly blond hair that say hear bunny bunny bunny....

So I hope this helps clear up what my days are like...no shade trees...no sweet tea sippen...but lots of memories.  I love every moment of it and I wouldn't trade it for a million dollars.  Now I have to go...I hear screaming from the back yard and I'm sure if it's a child of mine or a goat... 0.0

  • This is the project I picked

Here is a blurred picture of the blouse I am going to make...try to make...I'm hoping I can remember how to sew lol  Anyway you can't really tell, but it has box pleats under the bodice with hemstitching down half of the pleat.  It has fine lace around the sleeves and color and lace under the bust line with ribbon running through it that ties in a bow on the front.  If I can get this sewed...and still want to sew...then I want to make her a long denim skirt to go with it.  This is for my 2nd daughter who is 10 and very small!  She wears a 8 slim and hates having to dress in clothes that are babyish.  OK off to my room to start putting the pattern together and then sewing.

Oh and one more thing, I found the cutest bunny fabric tonight and sense she just got bunnies, I'm going to make her a quilt with it for Christmas.  I'm hoping that I have some kind of bunny stitch to bind it together with.

  • I'm going to do something

I haven't done in almost a year...I'm going to the Sewing Studio.  I'm praying that after walking through the store, feeling the fabrics and touching the lace (something only someone who loves to sew will understand) that I will feel better.  I think I need this to kick in my love for sewing again.  Maybe it will pull me out of my funk you know?

  • We have...

BUNNIES!!  The girls and I went this past weekend to a rabbit show and came home with 2 ADORABLE Holland lop bunnies.   They were my 2nd dd's 10th birthday gift.  Because she will be using them for 4-H we had to buy bunnies with pedigrees so we drove almost 2 hours to go to a show that I knew would have them. They are just the sweetest things!

About Me

  • Hi, I'm Shannon and thankful to God to be married to the best man God could have given me for 10 years now. I'm also a SAH homeschooling mom to my 4 beautiful girls that I thank God for all the time! I love gardening, sewing, cooking, canning, animals and being a help meet to my husband. My goal in life it to server God and grow to be a true Proverbs 31 lady as well as a Titus 2 person. My husband has been called to the ministry and we both feel that it is teaching biblical manhood and womanhood. We also host a web site called reachingforrighteousness.com to help those looking for information to help them serve God better.

@opster25@momaroo - OK for the 2nd grader, she should be learning double and triple digit addition and subtraction, rounding, and skip counting by 2's, 3's, 5's and 10's. Then after she has all of that move into multiplication. If you want a book, I love Math U See, but it is pricey. First Language
